A word from Ramona:

The hardest biographical sketch to write is always your own, whether or not you’re a writer by profession. You can’t decide what to throw in, what to leave out, and whether or not you should list strengths and flaws, or just strengths.

I like writing and telling stories so much that I once tried to live out a few. After getting a master’s in English, I went on to be the seneschale of my local Society for Creative Anachronism. I had a rocky start, but I did get better. (Robin Hood, eat your heart out.)

People often ask members of the SCA, “Are you in a play?” so I thought it would be fun to do that, too. For seven years, I produced and performed in shows staged by Nashville’s Circle Players.

Although I’m single now, I married in 1982 and in 1987 had Rachel. She’s a cutie. Severely disabled, she’s the heroine of many an article for Special Ed Today magazine. Rachel's nurse, Phyllis, is the real life heroine of “An Act of Desperation,” which I sold to Chicken Soup for the Caregiver’s Soul.

I’m not really a complex person, and my dreams are fairly straightforward: sell books, have enough money to pay the bills and travel a bit, and settle into a cottage. In early 2006, I bought the cottage, which is now more or less swamped by books and DVDs. I write at night (I’m a lifelong night owl), and I occasionally escape by scuba diving, hiking, dancing, and going to movies and bookstores.

I’ve gone to the same church since 1993, and I even sing in the choir. It’s a small but awesome church. I’m no angel, although occasionally I play one in the backyard.

I like staying busy. Life is too short not to follow your dreams.

My Review:
I have to say I loved this book. I started it and it got me from the first page. Right from the start we see Lindsey and Jeff in danger. We learn Lindsey was a victim of child abuse by her father and has learnt how to deal with pain this is helpful as she as taught herself how not to be a willing victim. Jeff has been helping Lindsey by escorting her to do the banking after she locks up at night. They have become friends and this danger threatens them both. As the book develops we learn more about both there pasts and what has made them the adults they are. There is a saying Lindsey and her sisters use to say which I have found myself using in the past few days not for this sort of issue but for another one where it fits well. I felt for Lindsey and what she went through as a child and I admire here strength. The suspense in this book was good and seeing what happens was well worth the read. I didn't want to put it down as I wanted to know what would happen next. If you like mystery or light suspense this is a really good read.

Please welcome Dana Mentink to my blog today. Dana writes suspense for Love Inspired and also has a book coming out in June with Moody. Welcome Dana

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

A little about myself…I’m California baby, born and raised here (mostly.) We’re talking Northern California where we do have seasons and winter frost and no sandy beaches. I’ve been married for 17 years to a retired firefighter type and we have two girls who are entering the dreaded teen years. Prayers appreciated!

2. When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?

As a child, I was a huge L. Frank Baum fan. I read all the Oz books (still have the set) and relished the imaginative details which got me started writing stories (and daydreaming in class during math lessons!)

3. Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and right write?

I love anything mystery/suspense related, some thrillers if they aren’t too gory and literary fiction. About the only genre I don’t really enjoy is paranormal stuff. Can’t get into vampires and werewolves.

4. Did you have favourite authors growing up who have influenced you?

I was influenced by Agatha Christie, of course, and later Jan Karon. Can that woman write or what? Harlan Coben is the best for those twisty plots. (Jenny here I loved Agatha Christie and still remember some of the books I read.)

5. When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I’ve always written stories, but I didn’t approach it professionally until about 14 years ago when I decided to leave teaching for a while and stay home with my babies. Finally I had the time and my husband gave me the gentle shove of encouragement. Once I got that first book published (the first Finny mystery) I was hooked.

6. How did you go about becoming an author?

I sort of fell into writing professionally. I was part of the American Christian Fiction Writer’s loop and I posted something about Christian cozies. Susan Downs (then from Barbour) saw my message and asked me to send along Trouble Up Finny’s Nose. That really got the ball rolling and after that three book series wrapped I was picked up by Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense. That was 12 or so books ago and I’m still writing for them.

7. If you were not a writer what would you like to be?

I have two work related passions, writing and teaching. I write part of the week and teach third grade the other part, so really I am blessed to be able to have my cake and eat it too.

8. Outside reading and writing what do you like to do?

I’m a huge reader (no surprise) and I love antiquing, the theater, walking and cooking. (Just not all at the same time. Ha!)

9. Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?
I dearly love our own little Half Moon Bay here on the California coast. It’s the type of beach community the Finny series is modeled after. Usually I write books about places I’d love to go. So far I’ve “fictionally” explored the Badlands, Alaska, Guatemala (in a new book which releases in June from Moody) and I’m working on one in American Samoa.

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and why?
If I could have a meal with three people I’d choose my husband, because he’s my best friend, Bill Cosby for the comic entertainment and Billy Graham because I admire him tremendously. How’s that for an interesting dinner party?

As far as current works go, my next Love Inspired Suspense releases on November 1st.  Entitled Dangerous Melody, it’s the second in the Treasure Seekers Series and this time the prize is a priceless violin, lost for decades. In May, the third in that series will come out, entitled Last Resort. You won’t believe the treasure in that one! 

A new venture for me is Jungle Fire, a romantic suspense that releases in June with Moody, about a missionary who is being hunted in the Petén jungle. Bring your bug spray along for that one! Book Review Zero Visibility by Sharon Dunn

My Review:

First thanks to Netgalley for my review copy.

What can I say this is my first book by Sharon and WOW. I was going to read one chapter before bed but at 2 am in the morning the book was finished. The first paragraph hooked me and there was no way I could put this book down. I needed to know what next would Merci and Nathan be safe, What about her friend who was with her in the car, why where they being chased. Merci is on her way to visit her Aunt for Spring break and sharing a ride with a fellow student when they run of an icy road. Nathan has a cabin in the mountains and comes across them in a dire situation. The cold adds to this story. I could feel the cold they were feeling, I could feel the danger and I was trapped I could not have put this book down for anything. I have read other books I didn't want to put down but this one  just held me. If I put it down I would have worried all night what happened next and I have to say I was really tired at the time.  This book has several surprises in it a few I saw coming and a few that I didn't expect. This is in my top three books of the year and I would say its number one at this stage. Excellent read. Wish I could give 6 out of 5 stars. 

Book Review Dangerous Impostor by Virginia Smith

My Review:

I recently bought this book from the Book Depository and had to read it.

 I love Virginia’s books and she is on my auto buy list. This book didn’t let me down and left me wanting more. Lauren is in Las Vegas with a Co-worker for a conference but while there he is murdered and she is the main suspect. Brent is her boss who seems to be the only one who believes she’s innocent and being framed. This leads to some interesting situations. I really felt for Lauren, we learn she is an only child after her mother died when she was a baby and has a father who doted on her and gave her everything. This is a job she landed on her own and she wants to prove she can stand on her own two feet. Someone seems to have it in for her and all the evidence seems to lead to her. The setting for this book is interesting and really does add to the story. I was wanted to keep reading to see what happens next and who was responsible. I also want to read more in this series. Great book.

Book Review Stalker in the Shadows by Camy Tang

Book Review:

I bought this book recently and couldn't wait to start it.

This is the third books featuring the Grant sisters. This time the book features Monica Grant. Monica is a nurse and wants to open a free children's clinic and starts getting threatened to stop or else. Shaun O'Neill is back home and believes this is the same stalker that killed his sister 5 years ago. They team up trying to find who is behind the gifts and letters and why they don't want her to open a free clinic. I really loved the way Camy set this story up and the interaction between the various characters. We also see Monica and her father argue about the clinic. We also see how Monica has to deal with his feelings and the way he has always made her feel as if she didn't measure up in his eyes. Monica's feeling thats she doesn't measure up is something I and I am sure many readers can relate to. It's not always intentional and sometimes the parent doesn't even realise the child feels this way. I appreciated how this was dealt with. This was a really good read and I can't wait for more by Camy. 

Book Review Threat of Darkness by Valerie Hansen

I enjoyed this story. Samantha is a nurse who is also a CASA advocate (Court appointed special advocate). John has come back to Serenity, working with the police and comes across Samantha after an attack at the hospital. Samantha and John have a history and he is not who she wants to see. When she calls for help the police don't react straight away as she has reported people for child abuse before and not always been taken seriously. Thanks to an incident at the hospital Samantha seems to be in danger and John is determined to keep her safe. I have heard of CASA before thanks to Dr Phil and was interested seeing it referred in this book. Its an important role and more advocates are needed. I love how the book highlights the work. While Samantha is in danger she is also on a case where she suspects a well respected man of abusing his child. This book deals with perceptions and how two people can have two different memories, It also deals with forgiveness and acceptance. The book kept me guessing til the end. A good read.

Book Review Trial by Fire by Cara Putman

Book Description:

Book Review
I have had this book on my TBR pile for awhile and felt like a change. I enjoyed this book. I don't like heavy suspense but the Love Inspired Suspense line is just right for me. The book starts with a fire at Tricia's mother's place and we are then introduced to Noah who is still frustrated with Tricia for not protecting his father the previous year in a trial. There seems to be someone out to get Tricia's family and Noah is a fireman working to help find out who is responsible. Tricia has had some issues in her past which we learn about in this book. Things she hasn't dealt with in her past and come back to affect her. Because of whats happening Noah is drawn to Tricia as he starts to see a side of her he hadn't expected. This books also shows facing ones fears can make it easier to deal with. I don't want to give anything away but will say the way Cara dealt with the issue gave me another perspective.  Good read.

Please join me in welcoming Sandra Orchard to my blog today. I have gotten to know Sandra through the Craftie ladies of Romance blog. I also happen to love her latest book.

1.    Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m from the beautiful Niagara region of Ontario, Canada. I live on a hobby farm with my husband of twenty-five years and our two youngest, college-age children. My eldest daughter lives nearby with her hubby, so I get to see my one-year-old granddaughter a lot, too! I majored in Math at university, taught high school math for a couple of semesters before starting our family, then stayed home and home educated the brood. I got “the call” on my youngest daughter’s first day of college so it was a fun “graduation” present for me. (Jenny here. I have been to the Niagara area about 3 years ago when I was in the area for a wedding)

2.    When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?

Oh, yes, and it has a cameo appearance in my current release. It’s a picture book called The Monster at the End of This Book, starring lovable, furry old Grover (of Sesame Street fame). The first chapter book that I remember truly inspired my interest in books was The Wind in the Willows. I was also a big Trixie Beldon fan, which might explain my love of writing romantic suspense. (Jenny here again, I remember the Trixie Beldon books but they were not ones I read.)

3.    Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and write?

I love to write inspirational romantic suspense. I love reading all types of inspirational romance, but I do prefer the faster pace of the romantic suspense and the interesting historical elements of the historical romance.

4.    Did you have favourite authors growing up who have influenced you?

Not so much growing up, but while home schooling my children, I discovered many classic young adult books from The Trumpeter Swan to The Indian in the Cupboard. I loved reading those books to my children and was inspired by the authors’ creativity.

5.    When did you know you wanted to be an author?

In Grade One after one of my stories was printed in the school yearbook. Eventually school killed the creative side of my writing. I thought I’d write non-fiction. Then after my mom died, I discovered Christian fiction. Seeing characters face and triumph over trials similar to my own helped me tremendously. After several years of reading novels, a yearning grew to write them.

  

6.    How did you go about becoming an author?

When I was twelve, I found a publisher’s guide in the library and sent off queries to all sorts of magazines. I didn’t hear anything back for a long time. Then one very sweet university press editor sent me a nice letter explaining the query process and that all submissions should include a self-addressed stamped envelope for their reply. I’d wondered what SASE meant in the guidebook! LOL I soon grew more interested in boys than spending a fortune on stamps. Thank the Lord for email, now!! I wrote my first novel in 2004-2005. I read a lot of books on writing, took courses, attended conferences, connected with other writers, and entered several contests and wrote and wrote. Then in 2009, I won the Daphne DuMaurier Award, which led to signing with my agent and making my first sale to Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense. (Oh I love that story about SASE what a nice guy he was to let you know)

7.    If you were not a writer what would you like to be?

I’ve always been a Jill of all trades so I’d probably dabble in a little of everything.

8.    Outside reading and writing what do you like to do?

I used to do a lot more than I do now: painting, cross-stitch, knitting, crafts, as well as carpentry, renovating and gardening. Now, my free time is much less task-oriented—playing with my grandbaby, walking my dog, kayaking or bike riding with my husband, or walking the beach. I also love to play board games with my kids and friends.

9.    Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?

I’d love to visit Australia. I’d also like to visit the West Coast of Canada. I love the East Coast. I love being by the ocean.  (when you come let me know and I will come and meet you. I love the west coast of Canada. I got go to Whistler and the Sunshine coast and got to see where the Beachcombers was filmed. It was so cool. I even have a t.shirt saying Molly's Reach)

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and why?

Well…at this very moment, I’d like to sit down with a police detective, a diving-for-treasure expert, and book therapist extraordinaire, Susan May Warren, to help me sort out a compelling plot for my next novel. (Would love to be a fly at this dinner).

Shades of Truth released in March. It’s the second book in my Love Inspired Suspense series, Undercover Cops: Fighting for justice puts their lives—and hearts—on the line. However, you won’t be lost if you haven’t read the first novel. Each story stands alone. They are linked by setting, theme and characters. For example, the heroine in this book was the friend of Deep Cover’s heroine.

Book Review Shades of Truth by Sandra Orchard

But Kim Corbett won’t tell Ethan anything— even when she’s threatened and attacked. When Ethan discovers what Kim is protecting, his guarded heart opens just a bit wider. Enough to make this the most dangerous assignment of his career. My review: I won this book recently and am glad I did. I liked the look of the story and wasn't disappointed. The story revolves round a Christian youth detention center which seems to be the recruiting ground for a drug ring. The heroine is Kim who's father started the center and wants to keep it going and has a real heart for helping these youth, for her its not just a job its a calling to work with the youth and help them. Ethan is a detective who is undercover to find out how the youth are being recruited. Both are not interested in romance as both have had there own issues. As the story goes on we see Kim in danger and Ethan drawn to helping her. I found the story interesting and I wanted to know what would happen, who was involved and why. Kim also has to deal with an over protective brother who seems to think she is incapable of making the right decisions. There is so much more I would love to say about the book but will leave that for readers to find out themselves. One thing I do appreciate about this book is the premise of the story with the idea of a Christian youth detention center giving youth a chance to have a better future and hope. Many of the youth are boys who had no where else to go or had done things only because they had no where else to turn. This sort of center gives them a chance of a life. Good read.

Book Review: A Deadly Game by Virginia Smith

Book Description:

Book Review:

I bought this book last year and have been waiting to read the book and wasn't disappointed. Due to a what should have been a harmless game turns dangerous and puts Susanna in danger in a way she could never have imagine and Jack becomes involved due to co-incidence. Susanna doesn't want to trust Jack as she has had bad experience with one before but Jack is the only one who can help. The story hooked me from the beginning and had me wanting to find out what next. I love the concept of the game and how it should have played out. The twist making it deadly adds to the drama. A good read. I have heard she has another coming out shortly and can't wait to read it also.

Focus on Christmas with Camy Tang with giveaway

Please welcome Camy Tang back to my blog today. Camy is sharing some Christmas memories with us. Also due to ending up with two copies of Formula for danger I have a copy for an Aussie reader. 1.    What do you most associate with Christmas where you live?

Since I live in a city, the one most noticeable thing about Christmas is that all the large stores put up spectacular Christmas light displays on their roofs. They're really very beautiful, and I see them wherever I drive, even on the freeways.

2.    Do you have any special family traditions you do at Christmas time?

My family usually opens one gift on Christmas Eve. I think my parents started it just so that my brother and I wouldn't get so antsy, but we still do it even now.

3.    Do you have a favourite Christmas Carol and if so do you know why?

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel has always been my favorite because the melody is so hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics of the chorus are so inspiring. (Jenny here I like this one too and I agree its inspiring)

4.    If you could spend Christmas anyway you could how would you celebrate?

In Great Britain! I'd love to experience an English Christmas.

5.    Do you have any special memories of Christmas?

Our first Christmas with our dog Snickers was very special. We were so excited and got her all kinds of useless doggy gifts that she didn't even understand, but it was really fun.

(I could just imagine this. my brother actually bought my cat a couple of gifts once, one being a wind up mouse which the cat totally ignored.)

6.    What is a typical Christmas eve and or Christmas day for you.

These days, we visit family in Arizona for Christmas. We have a delicious Christmas Eve dinner with my uncle, and then a Christmas day brunch with my husband's family. There's always SO much terrific food that I end up eating seven days' worth in that 18 hour period!

7.    Do you have any Christmas movies or Christmas books you like to see or read each year?

My husband loves the movie A Christmas Story and watches it every year when it plays on TV. I think that if it didn't play on network stations, he'd buy the DVD and play it on the DVD player all day. The movie just makes him laugh and makes Christmas a fun day for everyone. (Jenny again, I saw this for the first time last year and I agree its funny. I had to see it after so many talking about it.)

8.    Do you have a Christmas message for my readers?

Don't get so caught up in the preparing for dinner and guests that you forget to spend time with family! People don't care if your house is clean, and if they are anal enough to care, you can tell them to pull out the poker up their butt and then go jump off a cliff. Christmas is about spending time with loved ones, not making a perfectly beautiful dinner in a perfectly decorated house.

My Review:
This is the first book I have read by Rachelle and found this to be a good book. I like the Love Inspired ranges and felt like reading one of the suspense line. This is a good story with Maggie  working on the house she has inherited from her father how has recently died. Gideon is in suspension from the police force and is helping her restore the house he also thinks her father's death was suspicious. One of the themes of this book is forgiveness. I love how these books have hero and heroines with issues they need to overcome and sometimes issues that are not as big an issue as they have built them up to be. The not knowing who was behind the things happening at the house added to the story and I found I wanted to know more.
