CFBA Tour The Nurse's Secret Suitor by Cheryl Wyatt

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
The Nurse's Secret Suitor
Love Inspired (October 1, 2013)
by
Cheryl Wyatt

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Not even Cheryl Wyatt’s closest friends would dream that this sweet, shy intercessor plots mayhem during announcements at church. She is a Registered Nurse turned stay-at-home-mom, wife and writer who loves Jesus with all of her heart.

Joyful chaos rules her home, and she delights in the stealth moments God gives her to write. She stays active in her church and in her laundry room. She is convinced that having been born on a Naval base on Valentines Day destined her to write Inspirational Military Romance.

Cheryl loves to laugh and to make others laugh, so she often plans comedic moments for her defenseless characters in spite of their grumbling. She says it’s payback for when they refuse to obey the plots she’s set out before them.

Prior to publication, six of Cheryl’s manuscripts placed in ten RWA Contests. Two of Cheryl’s stories also placed First in ACFW’s Noble Theme Contest 2005 (Contemporary Romance Category), as well as ACFW‘s Genesis Contest 2006 (Mystery/Suspense/Thriller Category).

She currently writes for Love Inspired. Her Wings of Refuge Series, about a team of USAF Pararescue Jumpers and the ladies who capture their hearts, can be purchased anywhere books are sold.

Ways Authors have Blessed Me.

Firstly a note on why posting is sometimes a little erratic Nov 29th last year I fell and injured my wrist. After a few trips to the dr and then an MRI in March we know it wasn't broken but it did have a lot of inflammation. It has been a slow process and still not right. There are times typing hurts. Then last week I trip and the front steps and jarred it which has set it back again. I am waiting for a specialist appointment and am on the waiting list and have been told it could take several months. (The prayer is it will be sooner rather than later). It does mean there are times It is just not up to typing out a blog post and at times I am reduced to one handed typing.

After my post the other day about issues that annoy readers I wanted to do the flip side. How authors have blessed me as a reader. There are several ways this has happened and I will share some here.

Firstly I remember the first fan letter I wrote to an author, it was Gilbert Morris. After reading some of the Appomattox Saga I just had to write and say how much I loved the series for all I learnt and thank him for the books. What made my day was when I collected the mail and there was a reply. It made my day and I  was so excited. I have written to other writers snail mail but never received a reply. Then in later years I started to email authors after reading books to say how much I enjoyed a book and its always a thrill to get a reply. Its not expected but it really does make a readers day. There have been some authors I have really connected with.

I remember when I read Cheryl Wyatt's first book and she mentioned cricket. Being a cricket fanatic this really impressed me and after emailing Cheryl to tell her how much I loved the book and the fact she mentions cricket and then found out how she too became a cricket fan. From this we struck up a friendship which I really value. The same has happened with other authors Virginia Smith is another that comes to mind, one of her books had a secondary character caring for her mother and the way she portrayed her gave me hope as I was in a very similar situation, we connected because of this story. There are many other authors who I have had similar experiences with, far to many to mention but I hope they know how much they are appreciated.

Forums like Seekerville is a great place where both writers and readers can interact readers are welcome and made to feel important. They share important events like a new author receiving there first call and when someone has a rejection and shares they support them. I have had this support firstly a few years back when mum broke her leg and went into the nursing home and again last year when I landed in hospital and again when mum passed away. I appreciated and still do the prayers and support I feel like I am with friends there.

This year I got to meet four of the Seekerville ladies including one who is also on a Goodreads forum. We went out to lunch and had a wonderful time. It really made this readers day.

On Goodreads there are several forums there including a Love Inspired Historical forum where the LIH writers interact with readers. The group welcomes new members and the interaction is good. As readers we have gotten to know many of the authors and feel like they are our friends. Janet Tronstad started a group for her Dry Creek which is great for readers also. Love Inspired also has a group which is great too. Several authors have groups that are active and a great way to get to know them.

The LIH group has been wonderful to me and other readers. When mum passed away they were wonderful and very supportive as with when I was sick. I am not the only one to benefit from there support either. In May this year about 12 authors and readers meet in Spokane WA for a couple of days for a retreat. This came about from my going to the states and wanting to meet Jillian Hart and it snowballed. While I was last to arrive it was a great time to meet fellow readers and a few authors. We had a blast and even a couple of husbands were there. I also got to meet one other author Carrie Fancett Pagels in Williamsburg.

I have had the same sort of support from authors all around the world and it does mean a lot to a reader. I have twitter but very rarely read it and am on facebook and do interact there but Goodreads would be the public forum I use the most. There are other blogs besides Seekerville I frequent that have also been supportive. One that comes to mind is craftie ladies of Romance another Love Inspired focuses blog. These are a few ways I have been blessed by authors.

Book Review Doctor to the Rescue by Cheryl Wyatt

Book Description:
Combat doctor Ian Shupe returns home from overseas with his most important mission: to raise his little girl. But Ian's a single dad, and working at Eagle Point's trauma center means having to find child care. When bighearted, struggling lodge owner Bri Landis offers babysitting in exchange for construction work, Ian accepts. He vows to keep his emotional distance from Bri, yet can't deny that his daughter is blossoming under her tender care. But is he ready to believe that his heart's deepest prayer may finally be answered?

My review:
Firstly thanks to Cheryl Wyatt for my review copy.

Another good book by Cheryl Wyatt. I am enjoying this series of books set in Eagle Point and revolving around the trauma centre. Ian is a single dad after dealing with a breakup with his former wife and wants nothing to do with romance ever again. His concern is his daughter. Bri is trying to upgrade her mother's retreat. She also has some issue with an ex-boyfriend. Bri ends up babysitting for Ian and we see her relate well to his daughter. We also get to meet Ian's parents and have to say I love his mother as she has my first name. Both Bri and Ian have a lot of issues to deal with and I love how the story unfolded. Another great book.

Thursday special with Cheryl Wyatt and The Doctor's Devotion

Please join me in welcoming back to my blog Cheryl Wyatt to celebrate the release of her latest book The Doctor's Devotion. (I fell for the hero of this book and considering before this weekend I had a massive fear of doctors that says something).

1.    Thanks for coming back to my blog for the release of The Doctor’s Devotion, can you tell the readers a bit about yourself?

I am fun-loving and enjoy humor and happy endings. I think I write romance because life doesn't always provide a happy ending this side of Heaven, so I read and write happily-ever-afters to provide not only a sweet escape, but a glimpse of Eternity where happily will be for ever after. I was born on a Navy base in San Diego on Valentine's Day, so it's fitting that I write military romance. I love featuring rescuers in my books since I have a strong sense of being rescued by God. Some things that might surprise people about me: I'm REALLY shy. I've been snakebitten twice. I've been dogbitten twice. I am a recipient of donor bone and spent almost three years in a wheelchair and on a walker. I'm a tomboy who loves guns and motorcycles. I love worshipping Jesus and I consider it a great privilege to be able to write and do so as worship. I love encouraging aspiring authors. I travel a lot with my a/v technician hubby who does a ton of sound gigs for all sorts of bands you've heard of. I am thinking of chronicling our adventures in a husband/wife blog titled Verbs and Reverbs. I've been a media, humanitarian and medical missionary overseas following global disaster. I love pecan spinwheels far more than any human should. LOL!

2.    How did you come up with the concept for the Eagle Point Emergency series?

My lovely and brilliantly talented editor, Melissa Endlich, asked me to try my hand at a medical miniseries for them since I'm a Registered Nurse and because she felt I write caregivers well. She said that she'd like the series to be set in a small town and to feature some type of medical facility or clinic and for most of the scenes of the first book to take place there. She said she'd like for most of the heroes and heroines to be doctors and nurses or otherwise medical and of course for the series to be romantic. She said otherwise, the palette was mine. I followed her suggestions and advice and incorporated the military background in keeping with my brand then viola! Eagle Point Emergency was born. I loved the idea of former war veterans planning a trauma center while overseas, then getting to come home and see their dream come to fruition in a way that helped a struggling community pull together.

3.    I have to say I love books with doctors (which may sound strange when I have a real phobia of doctors) how did Mitch Wellington come about?

I LOVE honoring the elderly generation and also military veterans with my books. So the idea came to me to have a veteran be close to the heroine's grandfather, Lem. I started thinking about how they could have met and instantly a scene flashed in my mind of a young pre-teen Mitch being led across a corn field by Lem by his ear, because Lem caught Mitch stealing corn. Lem discovered Mitch's dad died from a motorcycle crash that happened too far away from the nearest hospital which birthed Mitch's desire to be a doctor and to one day build a trauma center in the rural area. Mitch's character came to life from there.

4.    I love Lem, Lauren’s grandfather, did you have fun writing for him?

I absolutely had fun writing Lem. He is a conglomerate mixture in personality of my grandmother Nellie and her brothers and sisters, particularly her brother Lemon. The book is nostalgic for me in many ways because I rarely base fictional characters off of real people I know. But in this case, I couldn't resist and Lem is probably one of my most favorite characters because of it.

5.    Is there a message you would like readers to take out of this book?
To never let go of your God-given dreams, no matter how long it takes. God keeps his promises and is devoted to seeing our purpose through. Also that He cares about the things that are important to us and He is intimately acquainted with our pain.

6.    When you researched this book did you find any facts you didn’t expect or you found interesting or surprising?

I discovered that God will bring just the right research helpers at just the right time for whatever technical aspect I'm struggling with or that is causing me to doubt the plausibility of my plot. He is SO faithful. I was surprised to discover that most hospitals in Illinois are phasing out LPNs which I think is not a good idea as they are such a help to RNs.

7.    Can you tell us what will be coming up next in this series (you know I can’t wait for the next book in the series)?

Absolutely excited to tell you about Ian's story! Book 2 is called Doctor to the Rescue and features Bri as heroine. I just turned in line and copyedits for it and am really pleased with how it turned out. It was fun to write a brooding hero and see him come around to his natural personality again after the trauma he suffered when his wife divorced him while he was deployed overseas. His daughter was a special aspect to the story and I enjoyed writing her character. I think I'm a better re-writer than a writer and some poignant moments really came out during revisions that I can't wait for readers to experience. It will release around Christmastime of this year, or for sure by January 1. I often name my characters after faithful readers to show my appreciation, so Ian's mom is named Jenny Shupe (Jenny...after you, my friend Jenny Blake who I AM going to go to an Aussie Cricket game with once before I die! LOL! And surnamed Shupe after Sally Shupe, who is also a dear reader who means a lot to me and who is going to be a wonderful editor in the future.)
(Jenny here, I am so honoured to be in one of your books. And yes we will go to the cricket.)

8.    Where can readers find you one the net? (Here is where I have to say you have one of the best facebook fan pages)

Thank you sooo much! I LOVE hanging out with readers and have a page dedicated to them on Facebook where I interact on an almost-daily basis:   https://www.facebook.com/CherylWyattAuthor I hope you will join (aka "Like") the page because we have a lot of fun and would love to have more readers to participate. I also have a website which lists my books and will have excerpts of all my books soon. I have a quarterly newsletter people can sign up for there too. www.cherylwyatt.com I love encouraging aspiring authors too and post frequent writing prompts on my blog, which can be found on my website.

My Review:

Thanks to Cheryl for my review book.

I have been waiting patiently for another Cheryl Wyatt book and finally its here. The Doctor’s Devotion didn’t disappoint. Eagle point is near Refuge where Cheryl’s last series was set and we do see some of the PJ’s in this book also. The book features a newly opened trauma center in Eagle Point. Mitch is a surgeon with a dream to open the center. Lauren is visiting her grandfather for the summer and has given up on nursing after an incident in Texas. We see an emergency where Lauren ends up helping and Mitch sees the nurse he needs for the center only he now has to convince Lauren to come and work for him. We also see the interaction between Mitch, Lauren and her grandfather. Lauren is dealing with a lot of issues including the fact she hasn’t seen her grandfather for five years and he seems to have a special bond with Mitch. She has to deal with her jealousy. This is another book that flows well and left me also wanting more. I know there will be more in the series but I am not sure I can wait til January for the next book. While I am the first to admit I have a real phobia of doctors I love reading books where doctors are the hero. This book left me wanting to find my own Mitch. Great read.

Book Review of Steadfast Soldier by Cheryl Wyatt

Steadfast Soldier

Steadfast Soldier

Rescuing people is his job…

But the one person pararescue jumper Chance Garrison can't seem to help is his own ailing father, who refuses his much-needed physical rehabilitation. That is, until Chance hires unconventional occupational therapist Chloe Callet. To his surprise, Chloe and her sweet black Lab, Midnight, work wonders. And not only on the elder Garrison. Chance just may have met the woman who can get through his own toughened exterior. Can he persuade the lovely Chloe to take a chance—on him?

My Review:
Another wonderful book by Cheryl. I have loved all the books and I think this one is one of the best. We get a to meet and get to know Chance in this book. Chance is recovering from losing his mother and dealing with his father who is recovering from a stroke. His father would rather join his mother. Enter Chloe and her lab Midnight to work with his father as an OT. Add the wivies of the other PJ's trying to play cupid it really makes the story.  Can't wait to read the next book.

review ofA Soldier's Devotion by Cheryl Wyatt

U.S. Air Force pararescue jumper Vince Reardon was headed to a lifesaving mission. Until a too-pretty lawyer crashed her fancy car into his motorcycle--sidelining him for two weeks. Vince can barely accept Valentina Russo's heartfelt apologies. Ever since his brother was wrongly convicted--and killed in prison--Vince has lost respect for lawyers. But wait--is that Val volunteering at his refuge for underprivileged kids? If Vince isn't careful, this lady of the law might just earn his respect and his heart.
Review:
I enjoyed this story. It was good to see Vince's story. Right from the start you can see a struggle between Vince and his ideas of lawyers and then trying to work out Val. This is a touching story in many ways. I love seeing what makes Vince tick. We have seen him in the other books as a tough guy and I am so glad I finally got to read his story. I love this series and would definitely recommend it. I cant wait for the next book where we get to read Chance's story. I was so excited to win this book earlier this year but would have bought it as I love this series.

Getting to know you Thursday with Cheryl Wyatt

Let's see if I can tell you random things you might not already know:
--I drag raced in High School and some in college.
--I am an organ & tissue donor recipient (bone)
--I am an avid practical joker
--I love to laugh more than almost anything
--I am extremely shy and so being an author is difficult because it pulls me out of my cubby of obscurity. I want only to be known as Cheryl-who-love-Jesus and I want my work to make Him more known and me less
--My main gift (even above writing) is praying for others

2. When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?

I LOVED the dictionary. I'm serious. I would read it for hours and hours. I was a total nerd that way. LOL! I also loved Aesops Fables but The Littles were my absolute favorite.

3. Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and right write?

Definitely Inspirational action romance.

4. Did you have favourite authors growing up who have influenced you?

I didn't read Christian fiction until well into adulthood but the first Christian fiction book I recall reading was a historical by Robin Lee Hatcher. I will never get rid of that book. I also loved Dee Henderson's stuff and she's a fabulous, giving person in addition to being a top notch author. There are so many authors I could list here but those were the two that come to mind.

I have always wanted to write books. My mom still has a contruction paper book I wrote and illustrated with crayons...so since about age five or so.

6. How did you go about becoming an author?

Write, write, write. LOL! And read, read, read. The best thing I did to progress my craft was to join www.acfw.com American Christian Fiction Writers. I also learned a ton from my editor-mentor, Dave Fessenden, through Jerry Jenkin's Christian Writers Guild. I learned by reading a TON and by writing and writing and writing.

7. If you were not a writer what would you like to be?

An editor or someone who reads books for a living. I can't stand the thought of not being a writer. LOL!  (Jenny here I would love to get paid to read or lately paid to promote new books for a publishing company)

8. Outside reading and writing what do you like to do?

I love to get together with friends and family for game nights. I love to spend time with my family. I love to host prayer at my home and I love to worship God alone or with others. I love to swim and I love to do, see or hear anything that makes me laugh.  (Jenny again Oh I love games nights but don't get to play often)

9. Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?

I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Australia. I had a pen pal from Australia since I was in grade school and I've always dreamed of going.

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and why?

Mom, Dad, Sister because we don't get together as a family near enough.

11. Finally can you tell us about your current books and/or any that will

be coming out soon. Also where we can find you on the web.

My last book released in January of this year and is called A Soldier's Devotion. It should still be available online. I have a June release that is up for preorder now titled Steadfast Soldier. It's part of the Wings of Refuge series and is Chance's story.

Focus on Christmas with Cheryl Wyatt

Please welcome Cheryl Wyatt to my blog today to talk about Christmas. I am really enjoying others Christmas memories and hope you are too. I have also put up the details of 2 of Cheryls books one is out now the other at the end of the month but they would make wonderful gifts.
Oh today I made fudge for the first time ever. Its still setting but I did get to lick the spoon and it was yummy.

1. Firstly thanks for coming back to my blog. This time we are focusing on Christmas.
What do you most associate with Christmas where you live?

You're most welcome! I most associate it with family and friends who come in for the holidays. Hot cocoa and the wish for snow, which is rare here in Southern Illinois.

2. Do you have any special family traditions you do at Christmas time?

We get together and play board games and card games. We also like to visit a place called Candy Cane Lane which is MILES upon MILES of an entire neighborhood that is highly decorated with Christmas lights. (Jenny here sounds fun)

3. Do you have a favourite christmas Carol and if so do you know why?

The Little Drummer boy because it reminds me that I'm writing as worship and my talents can be a gift to Jesus. I've loved that song since I was little.

4. If you could spend Christmas anyway you could how would you celebrate?

With all my family together in one place. I hate the miles that sometimes separated us. For everyone to be healthy and close to God.

5. Do you have any special memories of Christmas?

When out-of-town family showed up to surprise us from several states away. I will never forget it.

6. What is a typical Christmas eve and or Christmas day for you.

Lots of food. Family togetherness. We open one gift each and hang out, play games. I love that. Christmas Day is chaos. Watching everyone open gifts WAY TOO early in the morning. Then dinner with family and games and just being together is what the day consists of. Turkey dinner and lots of fixings.

7. Do you have any Christmas movies or Christmas books you like to see or read each year?

I don't get into Christmas movies much but when I was little I would love for my parents to pull out the Christmas albums of Alvin and The Chipmunks--the original. I love the Steeple Hill Love Inspired Christmas stories the most. I stare at the covers and love the snow and lights and wish we had snow here.

8. Do you have a Christmas message for my readers?

Stay safe and knowing Jesus loves you. That YOU are a gift to HIM and that you are never far from His thoughts. Praying blessings on you and your families. Thank you for your readership. I consider it a tremendous blessing and I'm humbled and happy beyond words to be able to write these books for Steeple Hill and the reader letters and support and positive reviews and all the word of mouth regarding my books have meant so much. I look forward to another great year with readers and always love hearing from them. God bless!

My Review:

Another great book by Cheryl. I have loved all the books in the series and this one is no different. This book is about Nolan Briggs another in the Pararescure jumper squad and Mandy Manchester his high School Sweetheart. Alot has happened in the past 10 years and there meeting starts of quite shaky. All books have focused on different members of the squad and are all totally different. On constant is the town Rescue. I enjoy getting to know the different squad members and there stories. Once again if you haven't read the other 3 books you will still be able to follow this book as they are all stand alone. 4.5 out of 5.

This book is available in the USA/Canada currently and should be in Australia in a few months at Koorong and possibly online.

Interview with Cheryl Wyatt with Giveaway

Today I welcome back Cheryl Wyatt to my blog. She has also signed a copy of Ready-made Family which one Lucky reader can win.
Thanks Cheryl for coming to my blog today.

1. Ready-Made Family is the 3rd stand alone book from the Wings of Refuge series. Do you have a favourite scene in this book?

I think my favorite scene is when Amelia (heroine) is at Eagle's Nest Vehicle Repair helping the owner clean and Ben (hero) walks in. She has grease on her nose and is grimy from working. When Ben steps onto the ladder and...well...you'll have to read the book to see what happens on the ladder. But that's probably my favorite scene because Amelia's little girl says, "Is Mr. Ben about to kiss you, Mama? Because that's the way movie people look right before they smooch." (or something similar...I'm reciting from memory. LOL!)

2. I appreciate Hutton and his unique qualities did you know much about mosaic down syndrome before you wrote this book?

I didn't know much about it at all. I needed Hutton to be able to hold a job and, though he has a disability, be pretty high-functioning. So I researched Mosaic Down Syndrome and it fit what I needed to do in the story.

3. Can you tell us a little about mosaic down syndrome?

It is basically the same as regular Down Syndrome. Except people with MDS tend to be a little more independent and higher-functioning. Some people with MDS have it so mildly that most people can't tell they are differently-abled.

4. I love the way the people of Refuge welcome newcomers and are so helpful and not judgemental. Is Refuge based on anywhere inparticular?

It is based on how I wish most towns were. LOL! Refuge is fashioned after Acts Chapter 1 & 2 when it says that no one in the town had a need because everyone pitched in and helped each other and gave as needed. Refuge is a fictional town but physically I fashioned it after an area down in southern Illinois that is Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge. The terrain, landscape, weather, etc is fashioned after southern Illinois. And I have to admit the town I live in and my community and my church (which I fashioned Refuge Community Church after) is the kind that reaches out without agenda.

5. I have to say I was happy to see the mention of Psych in the story will he be mentioned in the next stories? (I love Psych!)

Psych the cat...it seems he gets mentioned less in the books these days but usually because there's a big dog running around. LOL! And Psych...well, we know how he does NOT tolerate dogs. So...while I tried to put him into the stories, he scratched and hissed at me and sauntered off complaining about not having enough tuna again.....so he's still safely tucked away at Celia's house who gives him a run for his money in the way of bossy-ness. LOL!

6. Is there any message you hope readers take out of Ready-Made Family?

You know, it's strange but I never, ever set out to have themes or takeaway values in my books. But for some reason they always end up in there and especially if I've been as character Joel says, "plugging in" with God on a regular basis. According to reader letters, people are being encouraged to hope for restoration of broken or strained family relationships. And they are being challenged to reach out to others in need. Those seem to be the two common messages readers are getting from the book. But I didn't set out to give any particular message and I try not to write agenda-driven stories. But I think when we write as worship, things automatically filter through.

Reveiw:
I enjoyed this story. This is the 3rd book in the Wings of Refuge series but all books are also stand alone books. What I love is how both Amelia and Ben have issues which they are both dealing with. I also love interaction with Amelia's daughter and other secondary charactors. Hutton is another charactor I really like, his honestly and his honest take on life is very special. I love how Cheryl uses his disability to reach others. This is another wonderful book I would recomend for all I cant wait to read the next book.
4.5 out of 5 good read.

Critique Auction! Help Fellow Author

This Request comes from Cheryl Wyatt's Blog and being a friend I wanted
to help her spread the request.
Would you like to participate in an auction to help a fellow writer?
Literary agent Kelly Mortimer is coordinating ebay auctions to help fellow author Robin Miller with desperately needed finances while her husband is unable to work. I have donated a 1 chapter critique, up for bid THIS WEEK. Right now in fact.

Cheryl is very thorough and very honest but gentle. The bid for Cheryl's critique is here.
In addition, Tracy Ruckman, editor of Pixs-N-Pens has up for (bidding or buy now) grabs a 3-chapter-critique.

You can also bid on a professional one-sheet/bookmark design by Dineen Miller. I use her for my design services and she is OUTSTANDING. She's a top notch designer whose portfolios include such clients as Time Magazine, etc.

Please feel free to steal this post (LOL!) via cut and paste and spread the word to help my friend and fellow author. Robin is an amazing Godly woman who would do the same for you were you in her shoes and she able to help.
THANK YOU!
Cheryl Wyatt
