Book Review Doctor to the Rescue by Cheryl Wyatt

Book Description:
Combat doctor Ian Shupe returns home from overseas with his most important mission: to raise his little girl. But Ian's a single dad, and working at Eagle Point's trauma center means having to find child care. When bighearted, struggling lodge owner Bri Landis offers babysitting in exchange for construction work, Ian accepts. He vows to keep his emotional distance from Bri, yet can't deny that his daughter is blossoming under her tender care. But is he ready to believe that his heart's deepest prayer may finally be answered?

My review:
Firstly thanks to Cheryl Wyatt for my review copy.

Another good book by Cheryl Wyatt. I am enjoying this series of books set in Eagle Point and revolving around the trauma centre. Ian is a single dad after dealing with a breakup with his former wife and wants nothing to do with romance ever again. His concern is his daughter. Bri is trying to upgrade her mother's retreat. She also has some issue with an ex-boyfriend. Bri ends up babysitting for Ian and we see her relate well to his daughter. We also get to meet Ian's parents and have to say I love his mother as she has my first name. Both Bri and Ian have a lot of issues to deal with and I love how the story unfolded. Another great book.

Thursday special with Cheryl Wyatt and The Doctor's Devotion

Please join me in welcoming back to my blog Cheryl Wyatt to celebrate the release of her latest book The Doctor's Devotion. (I fell for the hero of this book and considering before this weekend I had a massive fear of doctors that says something).

1.    Thanks for coming back to my blog for the release of The Doctor’s Devotion, can you tell the readers a bit about yourself?

I am fun-loving and enjoy humor and happy endings. I think I write romance because life doesn't always provide a happy ending this side of Heaven, so I read and write happily-ever-afters to provide not only a sweet escape, but a glimpse of Eternity where happily will be for ever after. I was born on a Navy base in San Diego on Valentine's Day, so it's fitting that I write military romance. I love featuring rescuers in my books since I have a strong sense of being rescued by God. Some things that might surprise people about me: I'm REALLY shy. I've been snakebitten twice. I've been dogbitten twice. I am a recipient of donor bone and spent almost three years in a wheelchair and on a walker. I'm a tomboy who loves guns and motorcycles. I love worshipping Jesus and I consider it a great privilege to be able to write and do so as worship. I love encouraging aspiring authors. I travel a lot with my a/v technician hubby who does a ton of sound gigs for all sorts of bands you've heard of. I am thinking of chronicling our adventures in a husband/wife blog titled Verbs and Reverbs. I've been a media, humanitarian and medical missionary overseas following global disaster. I love pecan spinwheels far more than any human should. LOL!

2.    How did you come up with the concept for the Eagle Point Emergency series?

My lovely and brilliantly talented editor, Melissa Endlich, asked me to try my hand at a medical miniseries for them since I'm a Registered Nurse and because she felt I write caregivers well. She said that she'd like the series to be set in a small town and to feature some type of medical facility or clinic and for most of the scenes of the first book to take place there. She said she'd like for most of the heroes and heroines to be doctors and nurses or otherwise medical and of course for the series to be romantic. She said otherwise, the palette was mine. I followed her suggestions and advice and incorporated the military background in keeping with my brand then viola! Eagle Point Emergency was born. I loved the idea of former war veterans planning a trauma center while overseas, then getting to come home and see their dream come to fruition in a way that helped a struggling community pull together.

3.    I have to say I love books with doctors (which may sound strange when I have a real phobia of doctors) how did Mitch Wellington come about?

I LOVE honoring the elderly generation and also military veterans with my books. So the idea came to me to have a veteran be close to the heroine's grandfather, Lem. I started thinking about how they could have met and instantly a scene flashed in my mind of a young pre-teen Mitch being led across a corn field by Lem by his ear, because Lem caught Mitch stealing corn. Lem discovered Mitch's dad died from a motorcycle crash that happened too far away from the nearest hospital which birthed Mitch's desire to be a doctor and to one day build a trauma center in the rural area. Mitch's character came to life from there.

4.    I love Lem, Lauren’s grandfather, did you have fun writing for him?

I absolutely had fun writing Lem. He is a conglomerate mixture in personality of my grandmother Nellie and her brothers and sisters, particularly her brother Lemon. The book is nostalgic for me in many ways because I rarely base fictional characters off of real people I know. But in this case, I couldn't resist and Lem is probably one of my most favorite characters because of it.

5.    Is there a message you would like readers to take out of this book?
To never let go of your God-given dreams, no matter how long it takes. God keeps his promises and is devoted to seeing our purpose through. Also that He cares about the things that are important to us and He is intimately acquainted with our pain.

6.    When you researched this book did you find any facts you didn’t expect or you found interesting or surprising?

I discovered that God will bring just the right research helpers at just the right time for whatever technical aspect I'm struggling with or that is causing me to doubt the plausibility of my plot. He is SO faithful. I was surprised to discover that most hospitals in Illinois are phasing out LPNs which I think is not a good idea as they are such a help to RNs.

7.    Can you tell us what will be coming up next in this series (you know I can’t wait for the next book in the series)?

Absolutely excited to tell you about Ian's story! Book 2 is called Doctor to the Rescue and features Bri as heroine. I just turned in line and copyedits for it and am really pleased with how it turned out. It was fun to write a brooding hero and see him come around to his natural personality again after the trauma he suffered when his wife divorced him while he was deployed overseas. His daughter was a special aspect to the story and I enjoyed writing her character. I think I'm a better re-writer than a writer and some poignant moments really came out during revisions that I can't wait for readers to experience. It will release around Christmastime of this year, or for sure by January 1. I often name my characters after faithful readers to show my appreciation, so Ian's mom is named Jenny Shupe (Jenny...after you, my friend Jenny Blake who I AM going to go to an Aussie Cricket game with once before I die! LOL! And surnamed Shupe after Sally Shupe, who is also a dear reader who means a lot to me and who is going to be a wonderful editor in the future.)
(Jenny here, I am so honoured to be in one of your books. And yes we will go to the cricket.)

8.    Where can readers find you one the net? (Here is where I have to say you have one of the best facebook fan pages)

Thank you sooo much! I LOVE hanging out with readers and have a page dedicated to them on Facebook where I interact on an almost-daily basis:   https://www.facebook.com/CherylWyattAuthor I hope you will join (aka "Like") the page because we have a lot of fun and would love to have more readers to participate. My Review:

Thanks to Cheryl for my review book.

I have been waiting patiently for another Cheryl Wyatt book and finally its here. The Doctor’s Devotion didn’t disappoint. Eagle point is near Refuge where Cheryl’s last series was set and we do see some of the PJ’s in this book also. The book features a newly opened trauma center in Eagle Point. Mitch is a surgeon with a dream to open the center. Lauren is visiting her grandfather for the summer and has given up on nursing after an incident in Texas. We see an emergency where Lauren ends up helping and Mitch sees the nurse he needs for the center only he now has to convince Lauren to come and work for him. We also see the interaction between Mitch, Lauren and her grandfather. Lauren is dealing with a lot of issues including the fact she hasn’t seen her grandfather for five years and he seems to have a special bond with Mitch. She has to deal with her jealousy. This is another book that flows well and left me also wanting more. I know there will be more in the series but I am not sure I can wait til January for the next book. While I am the first to admit I have a real phobia of doctors I love reading books where doctors are the hero. This book left me wanting to find my own Mitch. Great read.

3 Book reviews of Jillian Hart books

Book Description:

While summering in Wild Horse, Wyoming, Dr. Adam Stone's young daughters gain an immediate hold on veterinarian Cheyenne Granger's heart. And the tall, handsome newcomer brings with him quiet whispers of fairy-tale endings. But Cheyenne had given up hope of a blissfully-ever-after when her boyfriend walked out on her. And Adam is busy nursing his own broken heart. Yet the girls are determined to draw the two together. Is it possible there's a happy ending--involving a family of four--in their future after all?

My Review:
Firstly thanks to Jillian for my copy of this book.

This is the latest installment in the Granger Family Ranch series. This story features the second Daughter Cheyenne who is back in Wild Horse after finishing her vet studies. Adam Stone is spending the summer with his girls to help them heal from his wife walking out on them. One of Adams girls has a real heart for injured animals and brings them to Cheyenne to help. This leads to interaction with Adam. Neither want a relationship but they seem to be pulled together. A side story is we see Cady and Frank again and there fledging romance, I really love there this side story and seeing an older couple find romance. This was another good book and I cant wait to read more books in this series.

Book Description:

Getting stood up on a blind date was the best thing that could happen to police officer Max Decker. No small talk. No personal questions. No lies. And no pretending he's ready to give his heart to anyone. Anyone like vulnerable Brianna McKaslin—who was stood up in the same restaurant! The lovely, kind, Christian woman is everything the embittered cop used to dream about in a bride. And Max can't be the one who lets her get away.

My Review:

I found this book at Koorong when I was there at Christmas time and had to buy it. This is the first in a new series of the McKaslin Clan. We see Brianna on a blind date which she has been stood up for when in comes Max who is also on a blind date and his date also stands him up. Neither want to go on these dates but there family and friends tend to wear them down so they give in. Brianna is recovering from a trauma that left her fighting for her life and Max is a police officer who has closed himself of from romance. They seem to run into each other and strike up a friendship. When they do try to go on a date what happens is so funny, I have been told the author has used some of her own experiences in these scenes. I felt for Brianna with what she went through and can understand her panic attacks but admire her for pushing through to not let what happened stop her. Good read.

Book Description:

"A place to heal"That's all Brooke McKaslin yearns for. She's returned to Montana on family business, hoping to leave her past behind. And to shield the secret she carries. She's not planning on staying long--until she begins working for reporter Liam Knightly. Liam is handsome, good-hearted--and as leery of relationships as Brooke is. Even as they realize how much they have in common, Brooke fears a threat to their growing love. Will her secret stand in the way of their happiness?

My Review:

Thanks Jillian for my review copy.

This is the second book in the latest McKaslin series. Brooke is back from her sister Brianna's trial and is there to support her. She has been working in Washington state and is now without a job and back home for now. She is struggling with bad memories. Liam comes onto the scene with an adopted dog Oscar who has a some interesting traits. There is a major issue Liam is a reporter and she thinks he is using her to get a story. Also Liam is recovering from an nasty relationship so is not in the hunt for a girlfriend. This is an interesting story and Oscar really steals the show on more than one occasion. Good read.

Book review Hometown Family by Mia Ross

Product Description:

Since when is prodigal son Matt Sawyer a small-town farmer surrounded by kin? Since the terms of his late father's will demand he stay in Harland, North Carolina. Terms that attorney and hometown gal Caty McKenzie has to ensure are carried out. Matt left Harland years ago and never looked back. But running the farm and spending time with Caty brings out a caring, faithful side of Matt that he didn't know existed. And Matt's soon to discover the real challenge: convincing love-shy Caty to stay right there with him.

Book review:

Firstly thanks to Mia for my copy, she kindly sent me one to save me having to wait till it came to Australia.

This is a good debut book. Caty is a lawyer who is back in her home town due to a funeral and as the attorney for the deceased has to deal with the family. Matt is the oldest son who doesn't want to be back on the farm. Matt left the farm as soon as he finished school and hasn't wanted to return, the place has memories he would rather not deal with. For Caty Harland is a place she grew up and has always wanted to return to. Caty Attorney training makes sure shes isn't a push over. She can hold her own with the best of them. Matt is use to saying what he wants not being questioned and he meets his match with Caty. There are sparks and not always in a good way. I love the interaction between them and the strength Caty shows. We also see the compassion she has. This is a good story and I look forward to more in the series.

Book Review Lilac Wedding in Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad

Product Description:
When she ran away from the juvenile home she was raised in, Cat Barker left more than an unstable childhood behind. She also left her first love, Jake Stone. The two had more in common than anyone understood, but neither knew how to trust. Now Cat needs help, and there's only one person she can turn to—Jake, her daughter's secret father. Though Cat can see the tender man she once cared for, she still fears love and marriage. Until a daunting challenge renews her faith—and teaches them all a lesson about trust.

Book Review:
First Thanks to Janet for my review copy.
I started this book and wanted to keep reading. I thought I would just read another 20 pages but 100+ and it's 1am in the morning and the book is finished. I love a book that keeps me turning pages. The second half of the book read so quick and easy it didn't seem like a few hours had past. Jake Stone is the second of the Stone brothers and is still dealing with his childhood issues. Cat was in the care home with him and they became good friends. Now years later Cat has sort out Jake to reveal he is her daughters father and that she has something she needs to tell Jake. I love the story there daughter is adorable and steals the book at times.  They head back to Dry Creek for Jake's brothers wedding. This is a hard book to say to much about as so much happens in the book that I would dearly love to talk about but my policy is if it happens after the first chapter or two I won't talk about it as I like readers to discover for themselves what happen. I will say I love  the story and where Janet took it. This is a good read and one of my favourites for the year.

Getting to know you Thursdays with Merrillee Whren

Welcome back to Merrillee Whren to my blog. Merrillee has a new release out with Love Inspired this month. It looks like a really good read.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I've been married to my
wonderful husband for over 35 years. We have two grown daughters and one
granddaughter. We live in Florida near the beach and share out house with
one big gray cat.

2. When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?

My mother read to me every night before I went to bed. One year she read Old Bones the
Wonder Horse. I loved that book and when I was older I read it myself.

3. Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and right write?

I read and write romance. I love stories about people falling in love, and I insist on
a happy ending.

4. Did you have favourite authors growing up who have influenced you?

When I was younger I read books by Phyllis Whitney, Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt.
My favorite author during my early teen years was Lenora Mattingly Weber.

5. When did you know you wanted to be an author? Even though I had written
stories ever since I could write, I didn't know that I wanted to pursue
publication until I was in my mid-thirties.

6. How did you go about becoming an author?

I started writing a story like I wanted to read. I sent it to a publisher, but it was rejected. Eventually, I
discovered Romance Writers of America. I learned a lot about the craft of
writing and the business of writing through this organization. I kept
writing and submitting until I finally sold my first manuscript to Love
Inspired.

7. If you were not a writer what would you like to be?

I used to be a teacher, but I don't believe I'd like to go back to the classroom. However,
I think I would enjoy being a tutor for one or two students at a time.

8. Outside reading and writing what do you like to do?

I love to play tennis and walk on the beach near my home. I also like to work in my yard
and play bridge, but I don't have much time for either of them. The yard
work becomes a necessity from time to time because we have a huge yard with
lots of palmettos that have to be trimmed back twice a year or the place
becomes a jungle.

9. Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?

I always say we live in the perfect vacation spot, so we never have to go on
vacation. But I enjoy visiting other parts of the world. I would truly love
to visit Australia and New Zealand. It is the long plane ride that keeps us
from going. My hubby and I have talked about doing a long cruise to
Australia after we retire. (Jenny here the flight may seem long but its

not that bad. If you did a bus trip in the States many of them are longer than
the flight. and you could break the trip in Hawaii.)

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and
why?
I know most people would choose someone famous, but I'm not really into
sharing a meal with famous people that I don't know, so I would choose my
three brothers. We don't see each other very often because we live far
apart, and we are very seldom all together at one time. It would be a treat
for the four of us to sit down and share a meal.

Finally can you tell us about your current books and/or any that will be
coming out soon. Also where we can find you on the web.
www.merrilleewhren.com
My current Love Inspired book is MONTANA MATCH. It takes place on a Montana
ranch and features a minor secondary character from my previous book, LOVE
WALKED IN. The heroine of MONTANA MATCH was a teenager in LOVE WALKED IN.
Here is a blurb:

is looking for. But she needs a job. And the twins' struggling single dad,
rancher Parker Watson, needs all the help he can get. Soon Brittany is not

past. It seems Brittany's finally found a place to belong. And with two
little matchmakers on the loose, there's no telling what the future holds.

to face that future--together?

Book Review At Home in His Heart by Glynna Kaye

Product description:

As soon as she got married, Sandi Bradshaw wanted nothing more than to move out of Canyon Springs, Arizona. Then everything changed when her military husband was killed. Now, establishing a veteran's memorial for Keith has brought Sandi and her daughter back to his hometown. And face-to-face with the man who stood in the way of her marriage! Bryce Harding has a lot to prove to this same hometown crowd—and the very stubborn Sandi. But can they embrace the possibility that God might be giving them both a second chance at love?

Book Review:
Firstly thanks Glynna for my copy of this book.
This is the third book set in Canyon Springs Arizona by Glynna Kaye. This time we meet Sandi who is a teacher who is establishing a memorial for her husband  Keith who died while in the military and Bryce who was Keith's best friend. Bryce always thought Sandi was wrong for Keith and tried to stop the wedding and Sandi has her own issues and wonders how much Keith told Bryce. When they come face to face its like oil and water. Both are determined to have nothing to do with the other. The problem is Bryce's grandmother owns the building where the historical display is housed and Sandi is the president of the society. Add Sandi's cute child Gina who has a mind of her own and then there is Keith's mother who thinks Bryce is trouble. I really love the way the story plays out and the different situations. The book deals with issues such as assumptions which partly happened here a third party only saw the issue from one side but didn't have the whole picture which leads to many misconceptions. Also deals with acceptance, forgiveness and understanding. This was a good read.

4th year Blogiversary with an Aussie Giveaway

4 years ago I posted my first post followed by a Meme from Camy Tang's blog. I then started posting reviews, joined the CFBA blog tours and eventually hosted my first interview with Mary Connealy. Since then I have had many interviews, reviews and join a couple of other blog alliances. This past year I have been able to promote Aussie books and writers also.

I have had a Getting to know you feature on Thursdays for a couple of years now and will continue. I also have a Christmas feature for Decembers called Focus on Christmas with Christmas memories. I love seeing how others celebrate Christmas.

I have made many new friends both authors and readers since I first discovered Relz Reveiwz and then started my own blog. To celebrate I have 2 Love Inspired books to give away. One I ended up with a second copy when I won a box of books earlier this year and the second one of mum's senior angels sent her a large print copy of a book I had (both are unread). Below is an entry form where you can enter for both books or just one. There will be two separate winners.

The book description is as follows. Thanks for all the support over the past 4 years.

Her Holiday Hope

A single mother with a traumatic past, Lisa Morgan only wants to raise her son with love and values. But lately the boy is struggling. When his basketball coach becomes a reluctant role model, Lisa is relieved. Until she learns that David Russell is also a cop. She's not ready to share her past -- or her heart. And neither is the world-weary detective. Yet as Christmas comes closer, the true meaning of the holiday brings them together in ways they never dared dream.

Lily Marstow and Alyssa Cane think they have the perfect plan. After all, helping their single parents fall in love shouldn't be that hard. But Silas Marstow wants nothing to do with the woman who lost track of his child for precious minutes in the aftermath of the High Plains tornado. And Josie Cane is busy caring for her ailing grandmother and rebuilding her life. The girls' matchmaking pact is in jeopardy unless they can make their parents see the love that's right in in front of them.
