Book Review Scorned Justice by Margaret Daley

Scorned Justice (Men of the Texas Rangers, #3)

Book Description:
Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun is with his parents in west Texas when an unexpected attack injures the brother of Rebecca Morgan, Brody's high school sweetheart. The local sheriff, a good friend, asks for Brody s help. At first, it seems like an open-and-shut case. As Brody digs deeper, he realizes the attack may be related to an organized crime trial Rebecca will be overseeing. With Rebecca's help, he compiles evidence involving cattle rustling, bribery, and dirty payoffs that shatter the entire community and put Rebecca directly in the line of fire. Brody expects to protect her. What he never expects is to fall for Rebecca all over again, or for a murder to throw the case wide open. Is Brody's faith strong enough to withstand not only deep-rooted corruption and cattle rustling, but also love?

My Review:
This is the third in a series and I have to say I enjoyed this book as much as the other two. I was kept guessing as to who was causing problems. It shows how revenge can eat away at a person to the point where they act without really thinking it through or caring who they hurt. I like seeing how the Texas rangers work and I liked Brody. I also Like how Rebecca is a strong women who cares deeply for her nieces. The book kept me on my toes and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

My Review:
Thanks to netgalley for my review copy.
I found this to be an interesting book as it focus's on New Years Eve. Each story is set in Snowfalls Colorado and the focus is the towns celebrations. The novellas are sweet and they move fairly fast due to the size but still are a good read. Each story has its own issues and its interesting to see how the characters deal with the different issues. The first books we see the hero and heroine meet when the heroine comes back to the town she spent summers as a girl and had a crush on the neighbour. We see what happens many years later. The second book deals with an author and and Illustrator and the differences they have to get the book right. The last one we have Hero and heroine from different walks of life and wondering if they can be compatible.
This is a good read.

My Review:
I was looking forward to this book after reading Saving Hope. This book is just as good if not better. This time it deals with bullying and how it can stay with a person well into adulthood. As a victim of bullying I understand this very well and how it has lasting effects on a life. This book we see Liliana working with Cody to solve the spate of murders of illegals. Cody has moved to get his son away from the extremist views of his step father and we can see how he feels about people who are different to him. This book shows how easy bullying can happen and how we often dont realise comments or actions we may think are funny or not even think about can affect another person. The mystery of the murders is also interesting trying to find out who is involved and why they are happening. I really enjoyed this book.

Interview with Margaret Daley of Saving Hope.

Please help me welcome back Margaret Daley to my blog. Today she is talking about her latest book Saving hope and the important issue it highlights. At the end you will find a giveaway for this book.

1.   Saving Hope is the first book in the Men of the Texas Rangers series. How did the series come about?
I have been fascinated by the Texas Rangers--a small elite group of law enforcement officers who cover the large state of Texas. Their history goes back into the 19th century. Then I interviewed a Texas Ranger and my respect grew even more by his dedication and desire for justice. There has been stories done about the Texas Rangers in a historical setting but not a lot in a contemporary one.
2.    How did you come up with the theme for Saving Hope?
The Children of the Night Organization in California interested me. I started researching the issue of human/sexual trafficking and was appalled by how serious this problem is worldwide. Working with teenagers as a teacher made the subject even dearer to my heart.
3.    Saving Hope besides being a great book is very informative what would you like people to take out of the story?
The importance of stopping human/sexual trafficking, an awareness of the problem and a sense of hope are what I would like people to take away from the story.
4.    How did you go about researching the subject?
I interviewed a Texas Ranger, read articles and books about this--from facts to people who were involved in sexual trafficking.
5.    The issue of child or teen prostitution is not something a lot of us wouldn’t think about or have been aware off.  I know I didn’t know that much about it. I love how the book shows how easy it is for a teen to be recruited. What would you say to parents to help them be more informed about the subject?
Read my book, become informed about the problem and be aware of what could happen.
6.    Do you have any comments for people reading the book?
I hope you walk away from reading Saving Hope with something that enriched your life--a sense of hope even in a world filled with evil.
7.    Can you give us a hint of what the next book in the series will be about?
Shattered Silence, out in October 2012, is about bullying in various situations--from children to adults. This is another subject I'm passionate about. I worked in a high school for years and saw the evidence and effect of bullying on teens.

Book Description:
When a teenager goes missing from the Beacon of Hope School, Texas Ranger Wyatt Sheridan and school director Kate Winslow are forced into a dangerous struggle against a human trafficking organization. But the battle brings dire consequences as Wyatt's daughter is terrorized and Kate is kidnapped. My review:
Thanks to netgalley for my review copy.
This book is definitely one of my top reads of the year because the story deals with an issue that is prevalent to today. The story deals with Child prostitution and how easy it is for teens to be recruited. Kate is the director of a program to help girls who have been rescued, escaped and arrested from their lives as prostitutes and is helping them to rebuild their lives and have a future. Wyatt is a Texas Ranger who works for the task force working to stop these rings. The story deals with a teen who goes to the aid of another and becomes trapped herself. At the same time Wyatt has a daughter he is worried about and is being very protective which at times can  cause issues between the two and could lead to trouble. The book also highlights things for parents and teens to look out for in someone who is trying to recruit or groom them and it may be the information that will save a readers child or child they are aquatinted with.   The book flowed well and was hard to put down, and at the same time was informative. If you are a parent, grandparent or have friends with children and teens this is a book well worth reading and sharing with teens. Not only do you get a great book to read you get very useful information on a subject many do not think about or realise how prevalent it is.

Welcome Margaret to my blog thanks for taking the time to be here this week.
1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Up until last year I taught children with special needs for twenty-seven years. Last year I retired from teaching to become a full-time writer. I also am the Volunteer Officer for American Christian Fiction Writers, a national organization with 1900 members. I have been married to my husband for almost thirty-nine years and I have one son and four grandchildren. To date I have sold sixty-five books and hope to sell many more.

2. When you were a child did you have a favorite book or books?

I loved reading Nancy Drew books, which probably accounts for the fact today I love to read suspense and mysteries.

3. Do you have a favorite genre to both read and right write?

I love to read and write romantic suspense/adventures.

4. Did you have favorite authors growing up who have influenced you?

No, other than the person who wrote the Nancy Drew books.

5. When did you know you wanted to be an author?

Not until I was in my late twenties. I have always been a storyteller, but I never dreamed of being a writer when I was growing up.

6. How did you go about becoming an author?

I read a lot of romances. One day I decided I would try my hand at writing. From that point on I began to learn the craft of writing to put all those stories I kept coming up with down on paper.

7. If you were not a writer what would you like to be?

The other job I did was to teach children with special needs, and I loved to do that.

8. Outside reading and writing what do you like to do?

Be with my family, go to the lunch and the movies with my friends.

9. Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?

My favorite place to visit was Tahiti. Bora Bora was gorgeous. I’d love to go back there and lay on the beach. I also loved England and Scotland. I would love to go to Ireland one day as well as Australia.

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people, who would you choose and why?

James Rollins because I love his books. Rick Warren because I would love to talk to him about Jesus. Gary Chapman because I would love to talk to him about the five love languages.
