Book Review Scorned Justice by Margaret Daley

Scorned Justice (Men of the Texas Rangers, #3)

Book Description:
Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun is with his parents in west Texas when an unexpected attack injures the brother of Rebecca Morgan, Brody's high school sweetheart. The local sheriff, a good friend, asks for Brody s help. At first, it seems like an open-and-shut case. As Brody digs deeper, he realizes the attack may be related to an organized crime trial Rebecca will be overseeing. With Rebecca's help, he compiles evidence involving cattle rustling, bribery, and dirty payoffs that shatter the entire community and put Rebecca directly in the line of fire. Brody expects to protect her. What he never expects is to fall for Rebecca all over again, or for a murder to throw the case wide open. Is Brody's faith strong enough to withstand not only deep-rooted corruption and cattle rustling, but also love?

My Review:
This is the third in a series and I have to say I enjoyed this book as much as the other two. I was kept guessing as to who was causing problems. It shows how revenge can eat away at a person to the point where they act without really thinking it through or caring who they hurt. I like seeing how the Texas rangers work and I liked Brody. I also Like how Rebecca is a strong women who cares deeply for her nieces. The book kept me on my toes and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

CFBA Tour Threads of Hope by Christa Allan with review

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Threads of Hope
Abingdon Press (March 1, 2013)
by
Christa Allan

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A true Southern woman who knows that any cook worth her gumbo always starts with a roux and who never wears white after Labor Day, Christa is a writer of not your usual Christian Fiction. She weaves stories of unscripted grace and redemption with threads of hope, humor, and heart. Christa is the mother of five adult children, a grandmother of three, and a brand new retired teacher. She and her husband Ken live in New Orleans with their three cats and do their best to dodge hurricanes.

And, since she is not fond of writing about herself in third person, she asked her oldest daughter to contribute. Like her mother, Erin is not at a loss for words…

 ABOUT THE BOOK

Passed over for promotion and dumped by her boyfriend, Nina O’Malley is further frustrated when her editor assigns her one of the “soft” stories she despises—covering a gala benefit supporting the AIDS Memorial Quilt. More determined than ever to prove she deserves a promotion to the NY office, Nina decides to write a series featuring a local quilting group raising money for AIDs research. At the event, she runs into her high school nemesis: Greg is a widower and the adoptive father of Jazarah, an HIV positive girl from Ethiopia. Unlike Nina, Greg has faith in a loving God, and he trusts in God’s plan for his life. Greg and Nina grow closer, and as Nina interviews the quilt families, she begins to question the choices she has made and her lack of faith. Nina suddenly finds herself facing two possible dreams, two paths for her life.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Threads of Hope, go HERE.

My Review:
I enjoyed this book and part of the reason is I learnt new information. The AIDS Memorial Quilt is a quilt that has names of people who have died from AIDS and it also is a positive way to remember loved ones. It also tells a story showing how we often instantly think if someone has AIDS we often think the worst of them when infact many victims acquired the disease due to many different circumstances. The book shows how Nina has a dream to work in New York and sees the writing stories about the Quilt and the local group as a way to get her dream job. Greg is the father of an adopted daughter from Ethiopia who is HIV positive. Greg just happens to be the boy who caused her problems in High school. Has he changed? Add a cute dog to the equation and we see what can happen. I loved the way the book played out and how informative it was. I also appreciate how Christa shows how people react to hearing someone died of AIDS and even how the loved ones talk about the issue. This book is eye opening and educational. Good book and a great read.

CFBA Tour For Love of Eli by Loree Lough with Review

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
For Love of Eli
Abingdon Press (February 1, 2013)
by
Loree Lough

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

With more than FOUR MILLION copies of her books in circulation, Loree has 98 books (fiction and non-fiction for kids and adults; four novels optioned for movies; more books slated for release between now and 2014), 68 short stories, over 2,500+ articles in print, and over 19,000 letters from fans!

Loree loves sharing learned-the-hard-way lessons about the craft and the industry, and her comedic approach makes her a favorite (and frequent) guest of writers' organizations, book clubs, private and government institutions, college and high school writing programs both here and abroad.

A writer who believes in "giving back," Loree dedicates a portion of her income to Soldiers' Angels, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and other worthwhile organizations.

She splits her time between a tiny home in the Baltimore suburbs and an even tinier cabin in the Allegheny Mountains, and shares both with her real-life hero Larry, who rarely complains, even when she adds yet another item to her vast collection of "wolf stuff."

ABOUT THE BOOK

When unspeakable tragedy leaves young Eli an orphan, two families are devastated. But Taylor, Eli’s aunt and legal guardian, vows to help him remember his parents by creating a Memory Quilt. As she begins piecing together the moments of his parents' lives, the story of the young family emerges and Taylor and Eli begin to heal. But Eli’s uncle Reece is slow to let go of the past and still blames Taylor’s brother for his sister’s death. So, although he has long been attracted to Taylor, Reece keeps a safe distance away. Can their shared love for Eli pave the way to forgiveness or will Taylor and Reece be separated by pain?

If you would like to read a first chapter excerpt of For Love of Eli, go HERE.

My Review:
I finished this book yesterday and loved it. The story deals with Eli who parents have died and is now living with his Aunt Taylor. His uncle Reece isn't so happy as Taylor looks so much like her brother (Eli's father) and he blames him for his sisters death. Taylor decides to make a memory quilt for Eli to remember his parents and remember memories from his past. I love the idea and how Taylor goes about it. Reece has a lot of issues due to his past that make him the gruff man he is today. We see how issues from childhood continue to cause issues as an adult. Without giving the story away I loved how Loree built the story and loved seeing what made them all tick. Added to the story are a couple of characters who work for Taylor who try to steal scenes at times. Good read.

CFBA tour A Wild Goose Chase Christmas by Jennifer AlLee with Giveaway

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
A Wild Goose Chase Christmas
Abingdon Press (November 2012)
by
Jennifer AlLee

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Word from Jennifer:

As I look back on my life, it's interesting to see where God's taken me, and where I took myself that God pulled me out of. I finally got back to writing, the dream of my heart. Since 1996, I've published numerous short stories, devotions and plays. I've also been active in church drama ministries, another passion of mine. My first novel, The Love of His Brother (November 2007, Five Star Publishers), was followed by The Pastor's Wife (February 2010, Abingdon Press) and The Mother Road (April 2012). A Wild Goose Chase Christmas is book two in the new Quilts of Love series.

Besides being a writer, I am a wife and mom. Living in Las Vegas, Nevada, my family has learned how to enjoy the fabulous buffets here without severely impacting our waistlines. God is good!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Upon her grandmother's death, Izzy Fontaine finds herself in possession of a Wild Goose Chase pattern quilt that supposedly leads to a great treasure.

Of course, once the rest of the family finds out about the "treasure map," they're determined to have a go at the treasure themselves. And, if that weren't enough, Max Logan, a local museum curator, contacts Izzy and says that Grandma Isabella promised him the quilt.

What is it about this quilt that makes everyone want it? Is Izzy on a wild goose chase of her own, or a journey that will lead her to the treasure her grandmother intended?

If you would like to read the first chapter of A Wild Goose Chase Christmas, go HERE.

My review:
I have to say I loved this book. I can relate to the death of a love one at present and at one stage I was reading this while attending the cricket (in the breaks) and said I have to stop reading books they make me cry. There was a section about Christmas that touched me as I could identify with the situation and it brought tears. This also is the mark of a good author who can create emotions in a reader. Izzy was a carer for her grandmother and they had a close relationship, after she passes away Izzy receives a gift of a quilt that her grandmother hopes will bring the family together. Max thought the quilt was his and lets Izzy know he thinks its his. Learning the secrets of the quilt and what it means has much more value than some would think. Lovely book and a great book to read for Christmas.

Giveaway;
If you are an Australian I have a copy to giveaway. Just leave a comment about your favourite Christmas ornament or item by 6 pm Friday 7 Dec. and a way to contact you.

Margaret Daley is an award winning, multi-published author in the romance genre. ABOUT THE BOOK

A serial killer is targeting illegal aliens in southern Texas. Texas Ranger Cody Jackson is paired with a local police officer, Liliana Rodriguez, to investigate the murders.

While the case brings Cody and Liliana ever closer, the tension between Americans and Mexican Americans heightens. As Cody and Liliana race to discover who is behind the murders and bring peace to the area, what they uncover isn't what they expected. Will Cody and Liliana's faith and love be strong enough to survive the storm of violence?

If you would like to read the first chapter of Shattered Silence, go HERE.

My Review:
I was looking forward to this book after reading Saving Hope. This book is just as good if not better. This time it deals with bullying and how it can stay with a person well into adulthood. As a victim of bullying I understand this very well and how it has lasting effects on a life. This book we see Liliana working with Cody to solve the spate of murders of illegals. Cody has moved to get his son away from the extremist views of his step father and we can see how he feels about people who are different to him. This book shows how easy bullying can happen and how we often dont realise comments or actions we may think are funny or not even think about can affect another person. The mystery of the murders is also interesting trying to find out who is involved and why they are happening. I really enjoyed this book.

CFBA Tour Always the Designer, Never the Bride by Sandra D Bricker

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Always The Designer, Never The Bride
Abingdon Press (April 2012)
by
Sandra D. Bricker

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

For more than a decade, Sandra D. Bricker lived in Los Angeles. While honing her chosen craft of screenwriting in every spare moment, she worked as a personal assistant and publicist to some of daytime television's hottest stars. When her mother became ill in Florida, she walked away from that segment of her life and moved across the country to take on a new role: Caregiver.

The Big 5-OH! was released by Abingdon Press in the Spring of 2010, and the novel was very well-received, garnering a couple of nibbles from Hollywood.

Always the Baker, Never the Bride was released by Abingdon Press in September 2010. With its phenomenal reviews, the novel spawned a series of three more books based on the popular cast of characters at The Tanglewood Inn, a wedding destination hotel in historic Roswell, Georgia. The series cemented Sandie's spot in publishing as a flagship author of Laugh-Out-Loud romantic comedy for the inspirational market.

"Being allowed to combine my faith and my humor with my writing dream," says Bricker, "well, that's the best of all worlds, as far as I'm concerned!"

ABOUT THE BOOK

It’s taken Audrey Regan years to establish herself as a wedding dress designer, and to date she’s been roped into creating dresses for nine of her girlfriends. Request #10 follows her vow to “Just say no!” and comes from her very best friend. She can hardly turn Carly down!

Audrey arrives in Atlanta early to perform all of her maid-of-honor duties along with final fittings for a one-of-a-kind dress. But Carly’s wedding is nothing short of an event, complete with Prince Charming, and the festivities make Audrey question whether there’s a prince of her own anywhere in her future.

Enter the groom’s brother and best man. Shaggy-haired, tattooed bad boy J.R. Hunt couldn’t be any more different from Prince Charming if he rode in on a Harley Davidson.  Oh, wait. He actually did ride in on a Harley!

My Review:
Thanks to Netgalley for my review copy.
I found this to be an entertaining and gripping read. I could see it in my head as a movie which doesn't happen with all books I read. I love Sloane she is such a fun character, its hard not to love her. She has a really interesting aunt who loves to cook only not always the best combinations of foods and a little absent minded. Her shop manager is fun also as are many of the regulars at the bookshop. While she has quirky acquaintances she also has some not so nice characters in her past. There is also someone sending cyber threats and a company wanting to buy the building which adds to this story. Without giving anything away this is an interesting light suspense book which had me laughing at times, and then time wondering what was going to happen. Good debut book and I sure hope there will be more in this series. (I could also see it made as a movie or series)
