My Review:
This was another good book. I have to say the Civil War fascinates me and I found this book fascinating also. Valerie has arrived home from boarding school to what she thought would be a happy homecoming but instead she feels unwanted. Her father has invited Ben McCabe to stay at the house while hes in town and its interesting seeing the interaction between the two.  They are both from different social backgrounds.
There are a few issues that happen leading to Valerie's father being arrested and her being sold into a marriage with a childhood friend who she doesn't love. This where the story really takes off What happens next is interesting reading.  One thing I loved about this book was the preconceived ideas people have of different classes. Its assumed Valerie is a pampered princess who doesn't lift a finger to do anything at home or for others by a few people. I found it good to have the some of the preconceived ideas challenged.
Great read. I can't wait for the next book.
