Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tour of Ollie the Orca by Laura Maw

Children's Book
Date Published: October 2014

Come along and join Bubba the Bottlenose dolphin as he makes a new buddy while sharing a day they won’t soon forget. Grade 1-2 Reading Level
Bubba is out on one of his undersea adventures when he finds a frightened Orca trapped by a fishing net! In this attention gripping yet comical tale, Bubba works with his buddy Sammy the Seagull to free Ollie. Come along and join Bubba the Bottlenose dolphin as he makes a new buddy while sharing a day they won’t soon forget.

When Laura Maw was a child, her favorite activities were going to the ocean and picking out another stack of books from the library. She loved reading from a very young age and could never seem to satisfy her craving for another new adventure, another new imagination landscape. Writing is a passion that seemed to come naturally with her love of reading. She too wanted to be able to help someone through a bad day, or to have a unique and thrilling experience on a good day, through the written communication of a story. She has a very vivid imagination that often takes her on wondrous adventures in her dreams. In fact, the idea for Bubba’s Balloon came to her in the form of a very funny dream. She woke up laughing and felt that it was a story that must be shared with others. The character of Ollie was even developed through daydreaming about Bubba’s adventures.

My Review
This is a lovely story. Beautiful illustrations that a child will love to look at while listening to this lovely story. I love the story of how a dolphin, seagull work to help free Ollie and the Orca and then become friends to go and adventure together. The only bad thing about this book is that I want to read more adventures of Ollie and Bubba. I think young children will love this story.

My Review:
Contains spoilers

This is a fun book about a dog who has been adopted from a lost dogs home and goes on vacation to the beach with his new owners. He has lots of adventures on the beach and at one stage gets lost. We see how hard it is to lose a dog. This is a lovely book and lovely story and it also shows how adopting a dog from a shelter can really make a difference in the life of a dog.

Belinda Francis, illustrated by Kayleen West

About the Authors

Belinda Francis
Award winning journalist turned children's author Belinda Francis worked in newspapers, magazines and electronic media for ten years in South Africa before she and her family immigrated to Queensland.

Shortly after arriving in Australia, her elder son was diagnosed with ASD and she devoted the next few years to his early intervention, which with God's guidance, has paid off miraculously. Her second son, who had been born ten weeks prematurely, is now healthy and strong – evidence of yet another miracle. She and her family recently celebrated the arrival of their third child, a much-prayed for daughter.

While raising her children, Belinda wrote
Better than a Superhero, her first published book, and threw herself into the local church and community. She runs the Sunday school program at her church campus.

Belinda is passionate about raising children up in God's kingdom and excited about the ministry opportunities the book will undoubtedly open up.

Kayleen West
An award winning artist, her work hangs in private and corporate collections in France, United States, Italy, and the Australian Embassy in Ireland and in government collections in Australia.

My Review:
I love this book. It is one of the best children's books I have read for awhile. The illustrations are very well done, bright and fun and will capture a child's attention. It tells children about Jesus and that he is better than a super hero as he is always there with them even if they can not see him. Loved the way the book flows. It would be a great gift book for a child and a book which would be great to see in libraries.
