Herald Press Blog tour Water My Soul by Darla Weaver

Water My Soul
By
Darla Weaver

ABOUT THE BOOK

How does your spiritual garden grow? What do you do to keep your Christian life flourishing? Darla Weaver explores these ideas as she connects gardening to spiritual growth in a new devotional, Water My Soul: 90 Meditations from an Old Order Mennonite (Herald Press, September 2017).

Touching on themes such as humility, contentment, right living and forgiveness, each meditation includes a daily Scripture reading, poignant prayer, and journal prompt or response idea designed to motivate and strengthen readers.

“As I worked in my ever-expanding gardens, I was amazed how often God used the natural world to open my eyes to new spiritual truths,” Weaver writes.

As an Old Order Mennonite living in southern Ohio, Weaver spends her time gardening, cooking, caring for her family, and living as much as possible off the land. Weaver bares her heart in these 90 devotionals, all drawn from her home-centered life, and encourages readers to root themselves deeply in love of Christ and service to others.

Women especially will relate to these meditations sprinkled with stories from Weaver’s children, marriage, Old Order Mennonite community and wider friends and family.

Blog Tour:
Love in a Time of Hate

Love in a Time of Hate tells the gripping tale of Magda and André Trocmé, the couple that transformed a small town in the mountains of southern France into a place of safety during the Holocaust. At great risk to their own lives, the Trocmés led efforts in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon to hide more than three thousand Jewish children and adults who were fleeing the Nazis. In this astonishing story of courage, romance, and resistance, learn what prompted André and Magda to risk everything for the sake of strangers who showed up at their door. Building on the story told in Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed, German journalist Hanna Schott portrays a vivid story of resisting evil and sheltering refugees with striking resonance for today.

My Review:
Firstly thanks to the publisher for my review copy.

I enjoy reading Amish books and the interesting dishes, such as  Whoopie Pies. Being an Australian I often wonder what the dish is. I jumped at a chance to review this book just to see some Amish recipes. While I haven't tried any recipes yet I have found many that sound interesting and because of photos now know what some look like. Lovina explains how to make the recipe which will help in making them and also many recipes she gives the story of the recipe. (When she first made the recipe etc.) Also what I love are the photos. We don't just see photos of the lovely food we see photos of the Amish way of life and also of nature. Some of the photos of flowers are breathtaking. Also the Amish buggies and horses. As Lovina is Older Amish their are no photos of her or her family but the book doesn't need that. It is a recipe book with the added benefit of wonderful photos.

If you ever wondered what some of the Amish recipes in books you read are or want to try some of their recipes this is a book I am sure you will like. Check out her facebook page for a demo of some of her recipes. I tried to add one here but I couldn't work out how to add it.
