Post Gall Bladder

I thought I would give you another update. I went into hospital last Thursday to have the gall bladder out. I saw my dr who was the anesthetist and then met the surgeon at the theater door where he went over the operation with me. I did ask if I could keep my stones. The operation went well. I heard him say I was a text book case. I also got my stones. Last time I had surgery all I wanted was a drink and didn't get one. This time the nurse in recovery gave me ice chips and I remember saying "I like you".

No one told me it would hurt that much! Having only about 36 hours to think about it and not having seen the surgeon before hand I guess I was going in blind. I knew there would be pain but it was more than I expected. It was probably worse as I had been coughing for the weeks prior and the ribs and area were already sore and I had a major coughing fit the first night. The pain meds when they were changed helped and by day 3 the pain was much better

Above are my stones. impressive right! I counted them and there are 144 little ones and one large one the size of a robins egg or a very large grape. No wonder I had been in so much pain. I realise now I hadn't been well for so long that I think the gall bladder had been affecting me for months. It may have even contributed to my headaches. We have now lowered the meds for them also.

I was lucky to get a bunch of flowers from my brother and family. It was a lovely surprise. They are very pretty.

The irony is that since I got the Gall Bladder out I haven't changed my diet that much from pre op.  I have added ice cream, cheese and a few other foods but on a whole not a huge amount. There are still foods I really don't want to eat even though they are foods I like. I lost over 7 kilos or around 16 pounds in about 6 weeks mainly due to not being able to eat much and having several attacks. I hope to keep some of it off.

I had key hole surgery so have 4 stab wounds as they call them. They are healing well but I still get a little pain at times especially one of the side ones if I move the wrong way. I also find sitting to long gets really uncomfortable. I still tend to nap several times a day but each day is getting a little better. We are having a heatwave which adds to the cabin fever. Looking forward to being able to get out at some stage for an outing.

The above flowers came from a couple of friend and were a huge surprise. the first one was how I got them and the right is how they look now with the lilies opening.
