Getting to know you Thursdays with K. Dawn Byrd and giveaway

Please welcome K. Dawn Byrd to my blog today. K. Dawn's latest book Mistaken Identity has just been released.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
In April of 2010, Desert Breeze Publishing released my first romantic suspense, Queen of Hearts (WWII era), and in August came Killing Time (contemporary romantic suspense). My first young adult novel, Mistaken Identity, will release on June 15. When not reading or writing, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 16 years while walking our dogs beside a gorgeous lake near our home and plotting the next story waiting to be told.
2. When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?
I was a huge Nancy Drew fan. I must have read every one in the school library....twice.

3. Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and right write?
I love to read and write romantic suspense. My first two releases were romantic suspense and then I decided to try my hand at writing young adult. Even though Mistaken Identity is not a suspense, I enjoyed writing it very much and am seriously thinking about pitching a young adult series to Desert Breeze when they reopen submissions.

4. Did you have favourite authors growing up who have influenced you?
Of course, the authors of the Nancy Drew books. I say this because Carolyn Keen was not a real person, but the pen name of whoever was chosen to write one.

5. When did you know you wanted to be an author?
I've always wanted to write, but life got in the way as it does if you don't make the time to write. I began to approach it seriously about three years ago. I never knew it would be so much work, but it's tremendously gratifying and so much fun.

6. How did you go about becoming an author?
I'm very much a researcher in everything I do. I probably spent hundreds of hours on the internet studying the craft and hundreds more reading all the books I purchased on writing.

7. If you were not a writer what would you like to be?
I'm not a full time writer. I work in the mental health field in my day job and am lucky enough to be able to say that I absolutely love what I do.

8. Outside reading and writing what do you like to do?
Actually, I'm at a point in my life that I've done everything that appealed to me. For example, I learned to ride a motorcycle and have owned three, two of them were Harleys. Right now, I can't think of anything else I'd like to do, but I'm sure something will pop up later. My husband says that life with me is never a dull moment because he never knows what I'll get into next.

9. Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?
The coast of South Carolina is my favorite place on earth. We travel there at least once a year.

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and why?
1) Jesus- I'd love to learn more about him and his life on earth.
2) Lucy Herndon Crockett- such a fasincating woman!
3) Brandilyn Collins- She prayed such a wonderful prayer for me at the ACFW Conference last year and I'd love to pick her brain about her writing. She's such a strong, wonderful woman of God and such an inspiration in so many ways.

Finally can you tell us about your current books and/or any that will
be coming out soon. Also where we can find you on the web.
Eden Morgan makes a list of six goals to accomplish in order to have the best summer ever. Getting a boyfriend, which is perhaps the most important goal, becomes complicated when she and her best friend, Lexi, fall for the same guy. Since Lexi is popular, gorgeous, and always gets her guy, Eden thinks she doesn't have a chance.

Channing Johnson is everything Eden's ever dreamed of and she can't believe he just moved in next door. When he starts showing interest in her, she's overjoyed...until she sees him out on a date with Lexi. He says Lexi talked him into it to repay her for tutoring him. Lexi says they're in love.

Eden doesn't know who to believe and is forced to choose between her best friend and the guy of her dreams. Nothing is as it seems and no matter who she chooses, someone will get hurt.

Loved the interview. I loved reading all the Nancy Drew books and just learned something new. I had no idea that Carolyn Keene was not a real person but different authors wrote that series. How interesting. "Mistaken Identity" sounds like a great book. Please enter me.

Blessings,
Jo

She is braver than I am...driving all those motorcycles! I'll admit...I am a chicken! :o)

Saw your post in the ACFW loop, and enjoyed the interview, too. :o)

Thanks for your comments! I'm not as brave as you think, Christy, I'm terrifed of driving in the snow. I have to make myself get in the car and go.
