Blog tour with Delia Latham and a giveaway

Today I am hosting Delia Latham on my blog. Delia's book Yesterday's Promise has recently been released and I have the honor of hosting her.
At the end of the post you will find 2 ways to go into 2 contests. Please read carefully.

Q & A – DELIA LATHAM
Yesterday’s Promise

Q: Where do you get your ideas?
A: Ahhh … the question every writer gets asked most often. And for me, quite possibly the hardest, because I’m not always sure. Sometimes I get ideas from little snippets of history I hear about or read about; a few of my stories are major exaggerations of tiny occurrences in my own life or the lives of people I know; and sometimes I sit down to write with absolutely no idea what I’m going to write about. Oddly enough, those are the times I usually wind up being happiest with the results, maybe because I’m most open for God to take my writing wherever He wants to.
Q: So you don’t always plot or outline your book before you write?
A: How’d you guess?  No, I write like I do most other things in my life – totally off the cuff.
Q:  What is Yesterdday’s Promise about?
A: It’s about a young bride abandoned in a Yosemite cabin, and her struggle to rebuild her life. And it’s about that same woman, a few years older and many years wiser, learning to love and to trust again.
Q:   What inspired you to write Yesterday’s Promise?
A:   Now this is a prime example of me flying by the seat of my pants. I was actually working on another book when I started it. I was doing some research online and happened across the website for National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo), which challenges writers to churn out at least 50,000 words of a novel in a month’s time. I simply laid aside my work-in-progress, pulled up a blank screen and started typing. Of course, I have to admit much more than a month went into rewriting, shaping – making it a book I’d actually put my name on and let someone read.
Q:   I understand this book is a reprint of an earlier release under a different title?
A: That is correct. It was published in 2006 under the title Almost Like a Song.
Q:   Who is Hannah Johns?
A: She’s a single, Christian mom with a heart in hiding. She’s a woman of very strong faith and commitment to a God she’s learned to trust while passing through the fire.
Q:   Why did you choose to set your novel in Yosemite and thereabouts?
A: It’s just so incredibly beautiful – the entire area. How could a person looking to set a stage for a romance find a more romantic one than Yosemite National Park?

Q:   Who are some of the writers who have influenced you?
A: Too many to possibly mention here! As a child, I devoured just about every book I could get my hands on: Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, the Bobbsey Twins – even the Hardy Boys; I wasn’t gender specific as to reading material. As I got older, I graduated to romance and found Grace Livingston Hill, Barbara Cartland, and oh, yes – I discovered Harlequin! Now some of my favorites are Joy Fielding; Shari MacDonald; Lori Wick … the list goes on for miles.
Q:   Is there anything readers might be surprised or interested to know
      about you?
A: My life’s pretty tame … I’m a grandmother, after all! I grew up in a littl place called Weedpatch. If that piques your interest, you can learn more about it on my website. I suppose the fact that I write songs and have recorded a few of them could be of interest to some people, although my foray into the music field was a long time ago. Most of my life is spent in my office staring at a 17-inch monitor – truly, it is!
Q:   What other projects are you currently working on?
A: I’m trying to find a publisher for a series based around a Christian dating agency. I’ve completed the first book, and am currently deep into the second.
Q: Do you have any other published novels?
A: Yes. Vintage Romance Publishing released Goldeneyes in 2008, and will be releasing my children’s book, Adam’s Wings, in December 2010.

A whirlwind romance amidst the natural splendor of Yosemite National Park. A spur-of-the-moment wedding near Bridalveil Fall. A young bride who awakens the morning after to find her new husband gone with the mountain wind.

Songbird Hannah Johns supports the child born of that ill-fated union by singing in a dinner lounge. Her dream of someday owning the elite establishment and turning it into a venue more suited to her Christian values is shattered when an unexpected transaction places it in the hands of Brock Ellis, the handsome biker who abandoned her in their honeymoon suite.

Ensuing sparks fly high, revealing buried secrets and forgotten pasts. Seeking to find peace with her painful past, Hannah returns to Yosemite, and Brock follows hard on her heels. Back where it all began, she finds herself in danger of losing her heart yet again to the man who shattered it the first time around.

My Review:
I enjoyed this story. What I loved most was the fact it was different. This story hooked me right from the start and when Hannah and Brock are first introduced I knew something was happening. I knew there was a story and was happily surprised with the turn of events. What I loved most about this book is that is wasn't predictable. I do not want to give away any of the story so its is hard to say to much but if you want a good read I would recommend this book as it
isn't the typical romance book. I loved the twists and different ways this book went. I hope to read more books from Delia in the future.

Jenny, I would normally say U.S. entrants only, but...go for it! lol It's not a heavy item to mail, and this is AUSjenny's blog, so... sure! And hey, I'd love to have Australia's readers buying Yesterday's Promise! :)

JoAnn and Donna, thanks so much for dropping in. I love the comments, too, JoAnn. And I'm looking forward to tomorrow's blog on WRiB, as well. Donna, I hope my descriptions make you even more determined to see Yosemite. It is so beautiful in places that it's actually emotional - makes you want to cry. And that's not an exaggeration.

I, too, read the Nancy Drew series when I was a girl. They may be kind of corny, but they certainly provide a great reading foundation for children.

That they do, LuAnn - and any clean book that can get a child to read and want to read more is a good thing, in my opinion.

Jenny, obviously the $10 gift certificates will be great for anyone to use. And as I said earlier, the screensaver is so lightweight that it shouldn't be all that pricey to mail. Good luck to everyone who enters!
