Getting to Know you Thursday with Tina Pinson

Please welcome Tina Pinson  to getting to know you Thursdays. (Im sorry i'm running late thinking I may need to change the day as I have classes all day Thursday and am often exhausted after I finish). Anyway welcome Tina its great to get to know you.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My husband of 30 yrs, Danny, and I reside in Western Colorado. In Grand Junction. We have three sons, two lovely DIL's and four beautiful grand children. We have owned and operated Omega Avionics for the last seven years.

2. When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?  I read alot of Nancy Drew books by Carolyn Keene. Collected them for a time. But my most favorite book as a child was From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg. I loved the whole two kids running away from home, living in a museum and bathing in a fountain premise.

3. Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and right write?
I enjoy writing Historicals that fall during the Civil War era and up to the 1880's or so. But I'm not opposed to writing other genres. I've written a WWII series called Trail of the Sandpiper that deals with coastwatchers and a missionary woman trying to get herself and seven orphans off Papua New Guinea without being captured by the Japanese. I wrote a contemporary, Then Came Grace, about a man who loses his wife in a catastrophy and is left to raise his twin 3 yr old daughters. And right now I'm working on a Futuristic Story called Counting Tessa. It deals with a woman who is hidden in the past so she can save the future. It has clones, gene mutation, time traveling and a nemesis who wants to do away with Christ.

4. Did you have favourite authors growing up who have influenced you?
I can't really say that one specific author influenced me. I've read so many different authors from differing genres.

5. When did you know you wanted to be an author?  I wrote my first story in elementary. Of course I started telling tales much sooner, much to the bane of my parents, now I can make up stories and not get in trouble for it.

6. How did you go about becoming an author?
I just started writing and writing. I wrote short stories and poems and songs and novels. I couldn't seem to get enough words out.

7. If you were not a writer what would you like to be?
Now, no laughing, but I always wanted to be the next Doris Day. Then I could sing and dance and be actress. I wouldn't be no sissified girl either.  I especially liked the earlier movies where she was such a tomboy. Like Calamity Jane. (Jenny here I loved Calamity Jane and I like Doris Day)

8. Outside reading and writing what do you like to do? I enjoying singing, drawing, gardening and teaching. I love being with my family and grandchildren.

9. Do you have a place you love to visit or would love to visit?   I live in Colorado, God's Country, and haven't seen near enough of my own state, but I'd also like to go to Scotland, Australia and while I've lived in Alaska, I wouldn't mind returning now that I'm older and taking a cruise there.

10. If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and why? Wow, that is a tough question. And I can only chose three. I suppose I'd love to sit down with our previous President George Bush ( with Laura of course) and ask him why he made some of the choices he did, some I agree with and some confuse me. I might like to sit down with Tyler Perry or James Cameron and ask them how they come up with the ideas they do for movies and shows. Then perhaps talk to Oprah or Sarah Palin, just to be able to be able to look in their eyes and maybe see what isn't seen on Television, of course having said that, I would like to sit with TD Jakes and maybe Franklin Graham or Joyce Meyers. I told you I couldn't narrow it to three. Writer's are curious by nature and I have a few more people I wouldn't mind talking to.

Finally can you tell us about your current books and/or any that will
be coming out soon.

In the Manor of the Ghost will be released this year, June 2010 through Desert Breeze Publishing. Following is a brief discription.
Losing her husband, and daughter to the flames of Boston, Caitlin Dupree, knows what it feels like to dwell In the Manor of the Ghost. Debilitated by her sorrow and the burns she sustained trying to reach her family, she closed herself off and lived with the echoes of her past. Then finally, she finds the strength to get on with her life. She takes a job as a music teacher in Minnesota, hoping to eradicate the haunting whispers of her past.
Devlin Clayborne is tired of hiring governesses who only want him and his fortune, with little regard for his son. Knowing Caitlin has cared for his son, Derrick, when she didn’t know the father, Devlin offers Caitlin marriage, with the understanding that he will be her husband, and will act accordingly, but he will not share her bed. Because of her loss and her scars from the fire, Caitlin agrees to accept and have, at least, a child in her life and a home.
Shortly after arriving at the manor, Caitlin realizes the house is filled with secrets. She dwells with new ghosts. The living, whose steps echo the halls of Clayborne Manor, but the unseen who reside there as well, haunting the manor, enveloping it in a haze of gloom and sorrow. And her new husband harbors the greatest secrets of all.
When Caitlin finds herself falling for Devlin, she wonders how to reach him. And if she'll be able to break down his wall before she loses him to the Ghosts of the Manor.

Touched By Mercy is slated for release in December 2010 through Desert Breeze Publishing. Following is a brief description.
Angelina!
She wasn’t Samantha’s daughter, but she should have been. Sam mothered her with love like she was her own. The child became heaven in her world.
Now the child was gone. Samantha felt her world slipping away. She had to find Angelina. She prayed. But doubted he would hear her.  How could he when she was so dirty? And how could she trust a God who she believed abandoned her. Hopefully this God wouldn’t abandon Angelina.
Touched By Mercy is a historical novel about a young woman, Samantha Marie Northam, who leaves an abusive home and finds her freedom ferrying children west on the Orphan trains.
Samantha’s biggest obstacle is the fear she carries within herself that she isn’t good enough to have a life or love. Because of that fear, she works herself hard trying to find the favor of a God who she learns later, already loves her.
God’s love is hard for Samantha to accept when she is haunted by her past. Her shame. The shame grows when circumstances, like finding Angelina is already in a loving home, leave her to believe that God will never accept her because she is tainted and evil just like her stepfather said.
She learns there is mercy instead of shame. And love. And though it seems out of reach, she always had freedom in Christ.
Touched By Mercy tells the story of Allan Pratt. A sheriff and carpenter, he sees the beauty in Samantha. He becomes the tool that God uses to strip back the layers of abuse and uncover the creation beneath.
Like Samantha, many of us, myself included, have been abused. The degrees vary, as does the length it takes to heal. Sometimes it takes years to reach a point where we see that God didn’t abandon us because we weren’t worthy of His love. It is my hope as the reader walks through the turmoil with Samantha they will find answers and hope. I pray they realize the beauty within them, beauty that abuse and shame can’t tarnish. And that God’s heart his torn by their hurt. He wants them to see how much he loves them.

Hello, Tina--and hello Australia! Lovely interview, and I enjoyed the excerpt. I really liked the question about sitting down with three people to ask questions. Tina, I couldn't have chosen just three, either. Very well done, Celia

Tina! what a nice interview. I learned more about you than I've known in a year of critiquing. LOL I LOVE the sound of your ghost story. I can say from first-hand experience with your writing that it is EXCELLENT. Your characters are memorable, your plots, fresh and fascinating, and your style engaging, haunting, the kind of writing that gets in deep.
You are definitely a writer to watch for.
Nice interview and blog, Jenny. :)
